| About Pidley Mountain Rescue CharityThe Pidley Mountain Rescue Team Charity Club was founded over 30 years ago, and was revived in 1999 after a short break, raising money each month to provide a piece of equipment to a disabled person in the County of Huntingdonshire, to ensure it improved their respective quality of life. It is the only registered charity in the United Kingdom that prides itself in not having any overheads whatsoever, and every single penny raised goes to a disabled individual with special needs. The charities name came from a chance remark, when Bob Johnson who died in 2004 aged 97, broke down in his Vauxhall Chevette in 1971 on one of the slopes that you have to climb to enter the village. Many people stopped to push him up the hill and to his home, and remarked, it was a mountain and it had been a rescue, and that is how the charity evolved, as simple as that. Thank
you for taking the time to read this potted history of the club, and I know you
will enjoy becoming a valued member of this famous club, based in the dead
centre of the county of Cambridgeshire. The team is based at Pidley Village Hall
and Social Club, Warboys Road, Pidley, 88 feet above sea level, the highest
point in the fens. Our corporate symbol of an abseiling child can be seen
abseiling the village hall and social club bell tower. Gil
Boyd TrusteesThe Trustees are made up of local people who give of their time and energy to ensure the target for each month is met. We do not produce glossy newsletters but, the team features regularly in the local press and we advertise all charity events in advance, and an annual general meeting outlines the public donations spent on individuals during the past year. All previous targets and future targets and events are contained on our web site. It is the only charity where the Post Office sponsor all postage requirements. Membership The
Pidley Mountain Rescue Team is proud to have a celebrity membership, made
up of famous people such as Sir Ranulph Fiennes our very own 'consultant
mountaineer'. Dame Norma and Sir John Major, Lord David Renton, Sir Brian
Mawhinney, Gary Numan, Lesley Vickerage of ITV's Soldier Soldier, and
Caroline Lennon of the Archers, Dave 'Boy' Green, the European and British
boxing champion, and many more.
